Bluffmaster!

Bluffmaster! may seem similar to Bunty Aur Babli in many ways:
  • Story revolving around not-really-dangerous 'conpersons'
  • Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role
  • Father tributes
  • Rap song as part of the end credits
  • Title starting with 'B'
Despite all these, believe me, Bluffmaster! is quite different. Firstly, there is hardly any usual song sequence. The songs themselves have been done by various groups / musicians as in Hollywood. The hero and heroine don't run around trees. The similarity that actually struck me was the avoidance of the traditional Bollywood format. Bunty tried that a bit, while here, it is completely done away with.

The problem was that the story seemed to move in many directions in the first half atleast and that would have made audience restless. A tight screenplay would have taken the movie to the next level. In any case, this is a good outing for Rohan Sippy after the debacle debut of Kuch Naa Kaho.

The end may be slightly incredible, but I felt that was okay. Atleast, some things fell into place -- we understand why Nana's character says "achhi line hai" ("that was a good line").

All actors did their parts well. It was good to see Nana not going overboard. Boman Irani seemed kind of wasted. Songs were okay -- a few would possibly get onto our minds slowly. Usage of sync sound was effective. The dialogues are really the highlight of the movie -- really worked upon, again much like Hollywood.

Good entertainment overall, while also experimenting with the format.
