Simple is beautiful...: an epilogue
I've been itching to write this piece for around 36 hours or so. This is a follow-up to my earlier post on the need for simplicity in technology.
I have to continue on my cell-phone too actually -- a Motorola V551. In the past few months of having it, my wife has screamed at me a couple of days for not picking up her calls. Actually, I never heard them! I was wondering if it was some problem with the service or with the instrument. Finally, 2 days ago, I nailed the culprit(s)!
On most days, I keep the phone in the trouser-pocket, along with keys. The keys have been banging on the phone now and then, and even have caused quite a few scratches. But I didn't know that the keys were also conspiring with the two buttons to create a stir in my marital life! When the first button is pressed, it displays the 'style' of the ring; if you press the second button after that, it allows you to change the style. On repeatedly pressing the second button, you might land up in the 'silent' mode. So, that's what had happened randomly.
Technology can be evil -- I vouch for it!
