Golden Globe thoughts

A few thoughts as I glanced through the Golden Globe nominations that were announced yesterday:
  • A Best Picture (Drama) nomination for A History of Violence definitely surprised me; but then, maybe that's the best they've got this year. Similarly, the Best Actress nomination for Maria Bello, for the same film, too zapped me.
  • Sarah Jessica Parker (of Sex and the City fame) got a nomination so soon after getting out of TV? Similarly, ex-Bond Pierce Brosnan too notches one up.
  • What does one say about the inimitable Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
  • I'll be rooting for George Clooney in all categories that he has been nominated!
  • Interesting to note a musical score by a South American (native in a way) for a cowboy movie -- Gustavo Santaolalla for Brokeback Mountain.
  • Also noticed a nomination for Cynthia Nixon (again, of Sex and the City fame) -- as Mrs. Roosevelt in Warm Springs (TV movie).
  • Movies on my "must-watch" list: Brokeback Mountain, The Constant Gardener, Good Night, and Good Luck., Transamerica, Cinderella Man, Walk The Line, Syriana, Crash, King Kong, Munich (this is long enough to keep me busy for months!)
  • Movies that aroused my interest: Match Point (atleast for Scarlett Johansson), The Producers
