"Re-make fever" spreads...

Re-makes have been doing the rounds in Hollywood for quite some time. Recent famous ones include Ocean's Eleven and King Kong. Don't know what the success percentage has been, but atleast it obviates the job of coming up with a new plot.

As we know, the 'fever' has now spread to India, with atleast a couple of high-profile announcements: Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay and Farhan Akhtar's Don. When the fever has crossed half the world, how long would it take to spread from North to South? Another biggie this time: Maro Charitra (which was earlier re-made in Hindi as Ek Duuje Ke Liye). See this and this.

While such re-makes can be considered blasphemous, I just wish that the new ones don't spoil the essence of the originals!

PS: Now, I realise that Kannada industry has been re-making in this way for quite some time now -- a recent example is Swathi Muthu (from Swathi Muthyam / Sippikkul Muthu).
