Abortion brouhaha

For an outsider like me, a debate in US about abortion itself was quite suprising. So, last week's passage of a bill in South Dakota was only shocking. This is seen as a step towards banning abortion throughout the country!

Read more about how things went in South Dakota. Even female legislators are divided. There is quite a bit of noise from the "pro-life" group too. Also, as usual, politics gets involved.

I don't want to argue whether IVF embryos are living things or if God creates humans. I would say that atleast the mother of the child needs to have the choice.

Is population explosion a problem we are willing to live with? Do mothers / couples have to suffer due to unplanned / unwanted pregnancies?

The South Dakota bill goes to the extent of disallowing even victims of rape or incest from aborting the foetuses! Do they want to protect one 'life' at the cost of torturing another?

I have no more words.....

This really is a very touchy topic. Personally I'm for pro-choice.

Let's assume a teenager is pregnant and is forced to raise the child. Will she be able to do a fair job? Is this a fair deal for the child? He'll more than likely grow up to be a crook. Ofcourse I'm highlighting the worst case scenario here. Things need not always be so negative. But this is plausible scenario and i've seen it happen to many under-age pregnant, stay at home moms..
