Movies and India-selling
The International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2005) is underway. The usual hiccups are all there, but movie-buffs have a gala time nevertheless. For a sample of what's wrong with IFFI in general, check out their Web-site.
Press coverage is usual. For a change, you can read something informal at this blog. Though it's good to see media folks lapping up the new phenomenon, the lay-out of this blog is frustrating.
While government machinery and many other folks are running the show at IFFI, in a way trying to sell India, yet another Indian is doing it in his own style. Getting Hollywood movies to be shot in India -- howzzat? He has had some success till now and we should be hearing more of him in the future.
While on movies, I have to succumb to this digression. I hate using the word 'film'. It sounds like the celluloid material that has been traditionally used to shoot photos or movies. 'Movie', though considered slang, seems like a better (and easier than "motion picture") word to me. If you search Wikipedia for 'movie', you are re-directed to 'film' -- oh, what a let-down!
